Jesus answered them and GAVE THEM THE SIGN: “When ye therefore shall see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)...” Mark reported: “But when ye shall see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand)” Luke's Report TELLS US PLAINLY what we're supposed to "UNDERSTAND": “And WHEN YE SHALL SEE JERUSALEM COMPASSED WITH ARMIES, THEN KNOW that the DESOLATION THEREOF is nigh.” The END-TIME ANNIHILATION of JERUSALEM IS THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION!! (Mat 24:15, Luk 21:20, Mar 13:14) ..... Let's TURN ON THE NEWS and see if armies are CURRENTLY surrounding Jerusalem?? --clark

Prophecy Calendars in the Bible

Many people believe that all Bible prophecy is supposed to be reckoned using only Jewish calendars of 360 days per year.  This Wikipedia excerpt correctly explains:

“The Hebrew calendar has evolved over time. For example, until the Tannaitic period (approximately 10–220 AD) the months were set by observation of a new crescent moon, with an additional month added every two or three years to correct for the difference between twelve lunar months and the solar year, and therefore, to keep Passover in the spring. The addition of the extra month was also based on observation of natural events, namely the ripening of the barley crop… the ripeness of the fruit trees, and the relation to the Tekufah (seasons)...

Leap Months:
The solar year is about eleven days longer than twelve lunar months...  without the insertion of embolismic months [leap months]; Jewish festivals would gradually shift outside of the seasons required by the Torah. This has been ruled as implying a requirement for the insertion of embolismic months to reconcile the lunar cycles to the seasons, which are integral to solar yearly cycles.

When the observational form of the calendar was in use, whether or not an embolismic month was announced after the "last month" (Adar) depended on 'aviv (i.e. the ripeness of barley), fruits of trees, and the equinox. On two of these grounds it should be intercalated, but not on one of them alone.  It may be noted that in the Bible the name of the first month, Aviv, literally means "spring". Thus, if Adar was over and Spring had not yet arrived, an additional month was observed.

After studying this matter (4-8-2010) my son summed it up like this:

“Regarding this 360-day calendar with 390-day leap years, this is not what the modern Jews use.  They do have a repeated month, but they do it every 3 years or something, not every 6, as is said to be how they did it earlier in the Bible.

It's coincidental to me that 1290 days in Daniel is a time, times, and a half, but with a 30-day extra month thrown in.

To me, the worst problem with believing they used a straight 360-day system is that the holidays would all get screwed up.  Passover would continue to get pushed earlier and earlier into the winter.  It would actually rotate through all seasons.  From what I've read, the method they used to figure out the calendar was more observational based on the moon and the seasons back then.  Toward the end of the month, 2 witnesses would observe the first sighting of the crescent moon after a new moon, they'd report to the Sanhedrin, and the Sanhedrin would announce to everyone that a new month had begun.  However, as an exception to this, toward the end of the year, they would observe the crops and other indicators of the change in seasons, and if it seemed like, at the rate they were going, Passover was to occur to early (in the winter), they would add an extra month before it to keep it in the spring.”

Over time, the "correcting for the difference between twelve lunar months and the solar year" creates an average year-length of 365.24 years.  365.24 exactly matches the Jubilee Cycles (Leviticus 25:10-11) and the six 1000-year Millenniums from Eden to the White Throne Judgment (2 Peter 3:8).  God’s 7th Day (His Sabbath) is the coming 1000-year Millennium.
To summarize:

God's Current Week of 7 Days (1000 years each):

-Contains full sets of weeks that are divisible by 7-day-segments.
-Contain full sets of Jubilee cycles, divisible by 50-year-segments.

- God's week is 7000 years.
- God's week contains 365,240 of our weeks.
- God’s week contains 140 Jubilees (see Genesis 6:3 “years” means circles or orbits).
- There are 18,262 sundowns (days) per Jubilee.
- There are 2,556,680 total sundowns (of our days) in God's week.
- There are 365,240 sundowns (our days) per millennium.
- Each millennium is not divisible by our weeks.
- Each millennium is divisible by Jubilees (20 per millennium = 140 total, see Gen 6:3).
- This means our Gregorian calendar matches the Jewish
observational method (using the crescent moon and ‘aviv (i.e. the ripeness of barley).

For prophecy calculations we use the Jewish method of weeks and months.  A 360-day year is subject to the correction of the observational method.  Ultimately, we are not using Jewish 360-day years any more than we are using Jewish 390-day leap years. We are using revolutions and orbits of the planets.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (2 Peter 3:8)”
