Jesus answered them and GAVE THEM THE SIGN: “When ye therefore shall see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)...” Mark reported: “But when ye shall see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand)” Luke's Report TELLS US PLAINLY what we're supposed to "UNDERSTAND": “And WHEN YE SHALL SEE JERUSALEM COMPASSED WITH ARMIES, THEN KNOW that the DESOLATION THEREOF is nigh.” The END-TIME ANNIHILATION of JERUSALEM IS THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION!! (Mat 24:15, Luk 21:20, Mar 13:14) ..... Let's TURN ON THE NEWS and see if armies are CURRENTLY surrounding Jerusalem?? --clark

The Great City of Jerusalem

Opinion of Clark Callear

Here is scriptural evidence that God is going to utterly destroy Jerusalem at the beginning of the “great day of His wrath,” also called “the hour of His judgment.(Rev 6:17 & 14:7)

This desolation, at God’s hand, will take place at the end of the Great Tribulation “in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound” (Rev 10:7)

The prophecies pertaining to God’s “two witnesses” will be fulfilled just prior to the last trump:
"And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. (Rev 11:8)"

Spiritually this great city has 3 names:
1.      Sodom
2.      Egypt
3.      Jerusalem: "the great city… where also our Lord was crucified.”

After 3½ days God resurrects and raptures these two witnesses (Rev 11:11-12).  Then:
At that same hour will be a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city [Jerusalem] will fall, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven (Rev 11:13).”

Out of fear, a portion of Jerusalem’s inhabitants will turn to the Lord.  Then:

Next:  Trumpet #7 sounds (Rev 11:15) and “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” true Christians will be resurrected and raptured (1 Cor 15:51-52 & 1 Thes 4:13-18).

Next:  The great day of God’s wrath begins (Rev 11:18) starting first with Jerusalem:
...for the overspreading of abominations he["Messiah the Prince"]shall make it [Jerusalem, Daniel's "holy city"] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined ["desolations"] shall be poured upon the desolate(Dan 9:27 but start with v.24 for proper context).”

Why does the Book of Revelation reveal these three names (see above) for Jerusalem?  I believe God is showing us that the Great City of Jerusalem is about to receive the same fate as Sodom and Egypt.  These desolations were different than others!  Why?  Because these were utter desolations performed directly from God’s hand, this is “God’s wrath” not man’s or Satan’s!

Egypt was warned:
"Egypt shall be a desolation... (Joe 3:19)"

"O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph [capital city of Egypt] shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant. (Jer 46:19)"

"Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee.  And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD...(Eze 29:8-9)"

"Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia. (Eze 29:10)"

"…I will make the land of Egypt desolate... (Eze 29:12)"

Sodom is our example for these last days:
“Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire (Jude 1:7).”

"And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.  (Gen 13:10)"

God utterly annihilated Sodom:
"Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;  And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. (Gen 19:24-25)"

At the end of the great tribulation, during the sounding of the last trump, God's wrath will be poured out upon the Earth.

A careful reading of Daniel 9:27 reveals that an absolute desolation of Jerusalem will occur by the hand of “Messiah the Prince” (Jesus).

This final desolation is in addition to the “Abomination of Desolation” (spoken of by Jesus and Daniel the prophet), which will be at the hands of man (probably nuclear weapons):
"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: (Mat 24:15-16)"

"But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:  (Mar 13:14)"

"And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains;  (Luk 21:20-21)"

Jesus told us “the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down” of the Jerusalem temple.  The Wailing Wall still stands today.

Once this first desolation of Jerusalem occurs, Daniel 8:13-14 reveals that there will be a 2300 day time between the Abomination of Desolation and God’s final annihilation.  This means that the Abomination of Desolation occurs about 8 1/2 months after the start of the final seven years.  During the 2300 days the Antichrist, together with religious Jews, will be at work rebuilding another Jerusalem temple.

Temples with their rituals and sacrifices ARE NOT GOOD.  God has given us only One Way to be redeemed.  There is no salvation to be found in neither men’s hands nor by “the works of the law:”

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified (Gal 2:16).”

In Solomon's temple a veil separated the Holy of Holies from all people except and rarely the highest of the high priests. This veil represented a separation between God and man. Jesus alone has nullified this separation:
“… we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man [Jesus], after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil… (Hebr 10:10-20)”

By Jesus Christ, alone, the veil is rent and we have a new and living way:
“Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain [tore apart] from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many (Mat 27:50-53).”

In Christ Jesus we have no need for a man-made temple. We are insulting God when we turn back to these “dead works” and temple rituals. Jesus prayed that we, as believers in Christ, would “be one” with Him and the Father. Speaking to the Father, Jesus said:
“Neither pray I for these [apostles] alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word; That they all may be one; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in Us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me. And the glory which thou gavest Me I have given them; that they may be one, even as We are one: I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in one… (John 17:20-23)”

The Bible teaches us plainly that this perfect oneness, this marriage between Israel, the Church, Jesus Christ, and the Father does not include a temple:
“And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God:.. and [it] had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel... And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the LambAnd I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. (Rev 21: 9-22)”

About 3800 years ago God crowned the Jews (Tribe of Judah) with the ruling authority over the World.  He also charged the Jews with the duty of being the World’s lawgivers (i.e. Judaea/Christian legal systems):

"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet [Judah’s posterity], until Shiloh [Jesus the King] come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be (Gen 49:10)."

By refusing to accept Jesus as Messiah/Christ, and by teaming up with the antichrist (in an attempt to build another temple in Jerusalem), the inhabitants of Jerusalem are going to be utterly annihilated at the beginning of this great day of His wrath:

" the latter days... there shall come a Star out of Jacob [Jesus The Christ/Messiah], and a Sceptre [Jesus The King] shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.  And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.  Out of Jacob shall come He that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city (Num 24:14-19)."

“…He [Messiah the Prince] shall make it [Jerusalem] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate (Dan 9:27).”

And this will be the hour when Shiloh takes the scepter away from Judah:

“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever (Rev 11:15).”
