Ascending to the Father
Generally speaking, when we die (or "sleep" as it’s sometimes called) our spirit goes to either Paradise or to Hell, where we await the resurrection of the dead. Resurrection is not only for Christians:
"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt (Dan 12:1-2)."
“And have hope toward God… that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. (Acts 24:15)”
The First Resurrection of the dead will be completed by the beginning of the Thousand Year Millennium. Those who are Resurrected/Raptured up to this point shall be with the Lord forever:
“Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years (Rev 20:6).”
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words (1Th 4:16-18).”
For those who spend time in Hell; their resurrection requires a FINAL JUDGMENT to determine whether or not they “shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Rev 21:8)*:
"...death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works (Rev 20:13)."

When resurrected, most people will have their dead body rise up out of the grave and their spirit will be rejoined with it:
“And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up out of your graves (Eze 37:13)"
"And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after His resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many (Mat 27:52-53."
Once resurrected, a judgment is required. Those of us, who have received Christ, are given a REDEMPTION… we are found faultless because we are washed clean “with the precious blood of Christ… (1 Pet 1).” In essence, those of us so-redeemed get a free pass. Thanks to Jesus we avoid Hell. So-redeemed, our Resurrection/Rapture occurs on, or before, the sounding of the 7th Trump, prior to the coming 1000-Year Millennium:
“But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished (Rev 20:5).”
Ultimately, at the time the 1000-Year Millennium is finished, all of mankind will have been resurrected and judged. There are two types of resurrections: 1. The Resurrection of Everlasting Life and 2. The Resurrection of Shame and Everlasting Contempt. Let’s look closer at each:
1. The Resurrection of Everlasting Life:
Simply put: We will live with God forever and ever. The Bible shows various examples of people who have been resurrected up until now (below are some examples). At the sounding of the 7th Trump all who are dead-in-Christ will rise up out of their graves. And then another miracle happens to those of us who are currently living on the earth:
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thes 4:15).”
Participants of this first resurrection (which occurs on-or-before the 7th Trump) will rule with Christ during the 1000-Year Millennium. The Lord Jesus Christ calls them Overcomers:
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”
“And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations”
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.”
“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from My God: and I will write upon him My new name.”
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne.”
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.”
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.”
An Overcomer’s Salvation and Eternal Life has been locked-in… their Calling and Election has been made sure:
"… give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2Pe 1:10-11)."
After the 7th Trump sounds ALL OVERCOMERS, both the quick and the dead, will have been Resurrected/Raptured. The dead, who rejected Christ, will remain in Hell for the duration of the 1000-Year Millennium:
"But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years (Rev 20:5-6)."
The Resurrection/Rapture at the 7th Trump will be the fulfillment of the First Resurrection. As Christians, Jesus Christ has paved the way for us. Because of God’s great mercy, it is not required for us to go to Hell:
"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Rom 5:8)."
As Peter stated: once our calling and election is made sure an “ENTRANCE” is ministered unto us into God’s everlasting kingdom! I believe this “entrance” is the fulness, the glorification, of our “Resurrection of Everlasting Life.” I believe this “entrance” is referred to in the Bible as: “ASCENDING TO THE FATHER.”
JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE: after being in Hell for 3 days and 3 nights the SOUL of JESUS was reunited with HIS BODY! He was RESURRECTED but NOT YET GLORIFIED*. Mary Magdalene was first to see Him:
"Jesus saith unto her, Touch Me not; for I am not yet ascended to My Father: but go to My brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto My Father, and your Father; and to My God, and your God (John 20:17)."

So a Christian Overcomer, having made his/her calling and election sure, shall have an entrance ministered unto them, into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and, as a joint-heir with Jesus, we will ascend unto His Father, and our Father; and to His God, and our God. This is The Resurrection of Everlasting Life!
Now we’ll look at the 2nd type of resurrection spoken of in Daniel 12 and Acts 24:
2. The Resurrection of Shame and Everlasting Contempt:
Simply put: This is the resurrection of eternal death! These are those who "were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death:"
"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the BOOK OF LIFE: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Rev 20:12-15)."
Some of these resurrected people are NOT permitted to "ascend to the Father." They are condemned to a Resurrection of Shame and Everlasting Contempt because THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS THEIR SAVIOR! Their names are BLOTTED OUT of the Book of Life! Rejecting their REDEEMER they are condemned to be “judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” As stated above, only overcomers shall not be hurt of the second death… only overcomers shall not have their names blotted out of the Book of Life:
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in WHITE RAIMENT; and I [Jesus] will NOT blot out his name out of the book of life (Rev 3:5)”
An overcomer (whose name stays in the Book of Life) shall be clothed in white raiment. Jesus spoke of this in His parable of "a certain king, which made a marriage for his son." You'll recall that the invited guests refused to come to the marriage feast. After punishing those who rejected him, the king widened his invitation to "whosoever" :
"Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Mat 22:8-13).
These guests were "both bad and good." But only one man was condemned, WHY? Because he refused to wear the Wedding Garment of Jesus Christ!
Even at the end, after being confronted by the King, this individual “was speechless,” refusing to ask for the Garment! Jesus offers us His white raiment, that we may be clothed, and that the shame of our nakedness does not appear at our Judgment, thus condemning us to the Resurrection of Shame and Everlasting Contempt.
We’ve established that generally, we humans die and our spirit goes to either Paradise or to Hell, where we await our resurrection. Some people by-pass this process! I see 2 ways this may happen, where people don’t need to die: 1. To be Raptured / Translated, or 2. To be Sealed. Let’s look closer at each:
1. To be Raptured (Translated off of this Earth):
The following scriptures speak for themselves:
"And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him (Gen 5:23-24)."
"By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God (Hebr 11:5)."
"And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias [Elijah] talking with Him (Mat 17:1-45)."
"And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal (2Ki 2:1)."
"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep [die], but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality (1Cr 15:51-53)."
"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent [precede] them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words (1Th 4:15-18)."
2. To be Sealed (While kept on Earth):
"And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel... And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads (Rev 7:2-4 & 9:4)."
"And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb (Rev 14:1-4)."
Here’s an example of all 3 processes. Notice how the Two Witnesses are sealed, resurrected and then raptured:
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days...And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies… These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them... And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them... And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them (Rev 11:3-12)."
As God’s Elect**, whether sealed, raptured, translated, sleeping-in-Christ, or backslidden… let’s give diligence to make our Calling and Election Sure: for if we do these things, we shall never fall… ascending to the Father, we shall forever be with the Lord!
